Jamie Cotten is an award-winning freelance photographer, specializing in candid portraiture and social issues.

Her work has appeared in The Denver Post, The Dallas Morning News, The Telegraph (UK), the Daily Mail, Colorado Life Magazineand in media outlets via Polaris Images, among others.

Jamie was recently invited to the 5th Pulitzer Prize Winners Workshop as a guest speaker in Hong Kong, where she presented her project on motherhood that she shot using the Hipstamatic iPhone app. Shortly after returning from Hong Kong, her story was featured on both the San Francisco Chronicle and The Dallas Morning News’ photo blogs.

She’s also volunteered her photo services for the nonprofit organization PEACE Mexico, shooting staff portraits and documenting PEACE’s involvement in its local community throughout Nayarit, Mexico.

“It’s amazing to see the way people open up to photographer Jamie Cotten,” says Colorado Life Magazine assistant editor, Matt Masich. “Her genuine and irrepressible zest for life puts her photo subjects at ease, letting her capture them as they truly are in unguarded moments.”

Jamie studied fine art photography at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York before returning to her native Colorado where she graduated from Metropolitan State College of Denver with a Bachelor of Arts in photojournalism and international business.

Upon graduating in 2010, Jamie worked at Law Week Colorado as the paper’s first staff photographer, though the paper had been open eight years.

Twice the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) awarded Jamie first place in feature photography – once for her photo story on Burmese refugees in Colorado struggling to navigate the complicated U.S. legal system, and once for her story on an inspirational boxing coach.

She was also recognized by SPJ for feature writing on her story of a quadriplegic father, Adam Scaturro, which she photographed as well.

“My ultimate goal as a journalist is to help people relate to one another,” Jamie says.

Craig F. Walker joined the staff of The Denver Post in 1998 and has covered a broad range of stories including the aftermath of the collapse of the World Trade Center in New York, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the United States military, post-traumatic stress disorder, the Occupy movement and daily life in Colorado.

Raised in York, Pennsylvania, Craig graduated from the Rhode Island School of Photography and began his career working for the Marlborough Enterprise and the Berkshire Eagle in Massachusetts.

In 2010, Craig’s photo essay Ian Fisher: American Soldier, an “intimate portrait of a teenager who joins the Army at the height of insurgent violence in Iraq, poignantly searching for meaning and manhood,” won the Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography. Craig’s work was exhibited at The International Photojournalism Festival of Perpignan in 2010.

In 2012, Craig was awarded a second Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography for Welcome Home, The Story of Scott Ostrom, a “compassionate chronicle of an honorably discharged veteran, home from Iraq and struggling with a severe case of post-traumatic stress, images that enable viewers to better grasp a national issue.” Craig was also named Newspaper Photographer of the Year in the Pictures of the Year International competition.

Craig’s photography has also been honored by the Sidney Hillman Foundation, Harry Chapin Media Awards, National Press Photographer’s Association Best of Photojournalism Contest, Pictures of the Year International, National Headliner’s Awards, Unicef Photo of the Year Contest, American Society of News Editors and Society of News Design.

Craig’s work can be seen on The Denver Post website, but you can see his award-winning work here
